Number of FDIC-Insured 'Problem' Institutions. The chart depicts the number of banks and savings institutions on the FDIC's problem list. One portion of each bar represents problem commercial banks. The complementary portion of each bar indicates problem savings institutions. There is also a table which breaks out these separate counts of problem commercial banks and problem savings institutions.
